	to get a hold of란 직역하면 「∼을 붙잡다」인데 상황에 따라 여러 형태로 해석될 수 있다. 가령 위의 대화에서와 같이 to get a hold of someone이란 「∼와 연락이 닿다」라는 뜻이다. 응용해서 「그와 연락을 할 수 없었어요」라는 표현은 I couldn't get a hold of him이라고 하면 된다. 또 물건을 찾거나 구하지 못했을 때도 I couldn't get a hold of the product하면 「그 제품을 구하지 못했다」라는 뜻이 된다. ▶ urgent「긴급한」 ▶ transfer「옮기다」

	Administration critics depict the Bush approach to dealing with Iran and Syria as essentially an across-the-board refusal to engage in substantive talks.But this is silly: Syria has an embassy in Washington and the United States has one in Damascus, and all three countries are represented in organizations such as the United Nations.
