too를 강조하는 부사

too는 '너무'라는 뜻으로 필요이상의 정도를 나타내며,

다소 부정적인 내용을 포함하고 있습니다.
그리고 그 정도에 따라 수식하는 부사도 다릅니다.

약간 지나치다고 생각될 때: a little (bit), a bit, rather
정도가 심하다 싶을때 : much, a lot, far

예를 들어보겠습니다.

ex)The boxer is a little (bit) too confident.
     Oh, you've come a bit too soon.

     - we still have half an hour until the party begins.
    You seem to meet my girlfriend rather too often, you know.

    These shoes are a lot too big for me. Can I try on another pair, please?
    My sister is far too young to go to school.
    I'm afraid you are much too old to work.

 

 

 

또한, 참고로 way는 부사로서 'to a great extent', 또는 'far'의 의미로 주로 전치사나 부사앞에 사용되는 경우가 있습니다. 그리고 물론 too를 수식하기도 합니다.

 

ex) The price is way above what we can afford.

       I receive way too much junk e-mail every day.
