	no use crying over spilt milk란 서양 속담으로 「이미 엎질러진 물이다]라는 우리나라 속담과 비슷한 뜻으로 사용된다. 여기에서 쓰인 spilt는 spill 「엎지르다」의 과거분사이다. 이미 돌이킬 수 없는 일을 가지고 걱정할 때 쓸 수 있는 표현이지만 우리가 평상시 말을 할 때 속담을 자주 사용하지 않듯이 적절한 상황을 봐서 사용하도록 주의한다.
