[77장] one과 ones의 용법

이제 대답시에 앞에서 반복되는 말과 같은 종류인 말을 받는 one에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다. 일단 기본적인 용법에 대해 설명을 드리자면, 주로 대화시에 무엇을 지칭하는지

 

분명히 알 때, 또한 그 명사가 셀 수 있는 명사일 경우 뒤에 반복되는 말은 one을 사용한다는 겁니다.

ex) Can I get you a drink? It's okay, I've already got one.

      Is this your umbrella? No, mine's the big blue one.

ones는 당연히 복수형의 말을 받는데 사용하겠죠.

ex) I think his best poems are his early ones.

      People who smoke aren't the only ones affected by lung cancer.

셀수 있는 명사가 아닌경우에는 one으로 받을 수 없습니다.

ex) If you need any more paper, I'll bring you some.

      I asked him to get apple juice, but he got orange.

위에서 보신 바대로 우선 어떤 것인지에 대한 설명 없이는 one을 사용할 수 없습니다.

(즉 small ones, ones with blue laces 등)

ex) We need new curtains. Okay, let's buy green ones this time.

      We need new curtains. Okay, let's buy some.

1. one/ones를 사용하지 못하는 경우

1) a 뒤에 -> 쓸려면 a 를 생략해야 합니다.

ex) Have we got any lemons? I need one for a meal I'm cooking.

2) 앞에 수식해주는 말이 명사일 경우

ex) I thought I'd put the keys in my trouser pocket, but in fact they were

in my jacket pocket.

일반적으로 누구누구의 것이란 뜻으로 소유대명사(mine, yours, hers) 등의 말을 쓰기도

합니다만 구어에서는 소유격+one의 형태도 사용합니다.

ex) I'd really like a watch like yours.

2. one/ones가 생략할 수 있는 경우

1) which 다음

ex) When we buy medicines, we have no way of knowing which (ones)

contain sugar.

2) 최상급 뒤

ex) Look at that pumpkin! It's the biggest (one) I've seen this year.

      If you buy a new car, remember that the most economical (ones) are often the smallest.

3) this, that, these, those 뒤

ex) The last test I did was quite easy, but some parts of this (one) are really difficult.

      Help yourself to grapes. These (ones) are the sweetest, but those (ones) taste best.

4) either, neither, another, each, the first/second/last 뒤

ex) Karl pointed to the paintings and said I could take either (one).

      She cleared away the cups, washed each (one) thoroughly, and put them one the shelf.

3. one/ones를 꼭 써야 하는 경우

1) the, the only, the main, every 뒤에

ex) When you cook clams you shouldn't eat the ones that don't open.

      After I got the glasses home, I found that every one was broken.

2) 형용사 뒤

ex) My shoes were so uncomfortable that I had to go out today and

buy some new ones.

그러나 색깔을 뜻하는 형용사 뒤에서는 생략이 가능합니다.

ex) Have you decided which jumper to buy?

      Yes, I think I'll take the blue (one).
